The Graduate School Commencement Rain Plan

If thunderstorms or heavy rain should occur on the day of the graduate commencement exercises, a decision will be made no later than 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, about whether the ceremony should move indoors. This decision will be broadcast onsite, on UNCP’s commencement website, on The Graduate School’s commencement website, on UNCP’s Emergency Information Hotline (910.521.6888), on social media, and on the University’s homepage at www.uncp.edu.

Should commencement move indoors, one graduation ceremony will occur at the Givens Performing Arts Center (GPAC). 

Each graduate will be offered tickets for four (4) guests to attend the ceremony.

  • Graduates will receive their guest tickets when they check-in for the graduation lineup in the Auxiliary gym at 4:30 pm. 
  • Each graduate will be responsible for coordinating the distribution of their tickets to their guests.
  • All tickets are general admission seating.
  • An overflow space in the main gym of the Jones Health and Physical Education Center will be available for additional guests who would like to watch via  livestream and join the reception in the University Center Annex following the ceremony.

In lieu of a processional, faculty will sit in their designated area in GPAC prior to the start of commencement.

Undergraduate Commencement Rain Plan

If thunderstorms or heavy rain should occur on the day of the undergraduate commencement, a decision will be made no later than 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024, about whether the ceremony should move indoors. This decision will be broadcast onsite, on UNCP’s commencement website, on UNCP’s Emergency Information Hotline (910.521.6888), on social media, and on the University’s homepage at www.uncp.edu.

Should commencement move indoors, four abbreviated graduation ceremonies will occur at the Givens Performing Arts Center (GPAC) as indicated below.

Receptions will be held in the University Center Annex immediately following each ceremony.

Graduates waiting for their college or school’s graduation ceremony should assemble in the auxiliary gym of the Jones Athletic Center 45 minutes before their ceremony is scheduled to begin. Each graduate may invite six (6) guests to attend the ceremony in GPAC.

Family and friends attending the 9:00 a.m. ceremony will go directly to GPAC. All others may wait in the main gym and the University Center until the appointed time of their ceremony. Livestreaming of each ceremony will be available in the main gym.
