Gender Studies Minor

Are you fascinated by the different ways men and women communicate, dress, carry themselves, and take up space in the world?  Do you wonder about how these differences have come about and how they have changed over time?  Would you like to know more about the ways gender—what we expect of women and men in our society—affects many other aspects of our lives and our worlds, such as our opportunities, our income, and our health?  If so, you should consider a minor in Gender Studies.

Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary minor focusing on the development, maintenance, and consequences of gender in everyday life.  The minor includes courses from Sociology, Social Work, History, English, American Indian Studies, and Nursing to provide a well-rounded understanding of gender.

A minor in gender studies can benefit you in several ways.  The theories, concepts, and skills you learn will provide you with a better understanding of workplace relationships and gender in a global context.  Such understandings are valuable to employers.  The minor will also give you a better understanding of the way gender impacts your personal life and relationships.
