Graduate Ceremony

The ceremony for graduate students will be held Friday May 5, 2023, in the Quad between Livermore Library and Old Main. The processional will begin promptly at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are not required for entry unless the ceremony is moved indoors due to inclement weather. Please see The Graduate School’s rain plan for more information.

Entrances to the Quad open at 5:30 p.m. All guests should be seated no later than 6:30 p.m. Graduates will line up at 5:30 p.m. in the auxiliary gym of the Jones Health and P.E. Center.

Please see the campus map for parking lot locations. Accessible parking is available in Lots 3 and 4.

Restrooms are located in Old Main and Moore Hall. Accessible restrooms will be available near the ADA seating.

The UNCP Bookstore will sell roses, balloons, alumni gifts, and apparel before the ceremony begins.

The UNCP Alumni Association will collect updated information for graduates. The Alumni Association wants to keep you informed and involved in the life of UNCP.

Photographs of each graduate will be taken during the ceremony and available for purchase at a later date. Information will be sent to the graduates after commencement.

The commencement speaker will be Chief Lynn Malerba of the Mohegan Tribe.

Schedule of Events



5:30 p.m.

Graduates assemble in the Auxiliary Gym of the Jones Health and P.E. Center.


Entrances to the Quad open for family and guests.



5:45 p.m.

The platform party will robe and line up in the Chancellor's Dining Room.


Faculty and administrators will assemble in front of the D. F. Lowry Building to honor the graduates as they process across the bridge and join the processional.



6:30 p.m.

Entrances close and guests should be seated.



6:45 p.m.

Processional of graduates, faculty, and platform party begins.




A reception will be held near the water feature following the ceremony.
