About

Yawo Bessa, has a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of North Texas (UNT) in 2012. Before securing a position at University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP) in 2015, he taught at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas and Allen University (AU) in Columbia, South Carolina. He is currently serving as an associate professor of sociology at the UNCP, where he has taught several courses, including Freshman Seminar, Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Health and Society, Sociological Theory, Social Research, Community Health Organizations and Services, Health Inequalities, Voluntary Associations and Non-profit Organizations, Family Violence, Health Promotion and Wellness, and Sociology of Mental Disorders. In addition to teaching, he has a passion for research. He has published several articles and book chapters in the areas of delinquency, health, mental health, and sociological theory. He is the author of several books, including The Amounts of Parental Supervision Time and Children’s Delinquency, Essential Reading in Social Problems, Voluntary Association and Non-profit Organizations in an Uncertain and Unpredictable World.
