BraveNation:

The university is monitoring the track and potential impacts of Hurricane Michael for our area. It is expected to make landfall on Wednesday in the Florida panhandle before moving rapidly through the southeast into North Carolina on Thursday as a tropical storm.

We are anticipating strong wind gusts and tropical storm force winds with possible power outages on Thursday. The National Weather Service has indicated there is an elevated risk of tornadoes associated with the storm for our region.

UNC Pembroke will be on Fall Break Thursday and Friday. Students who choose to remain on campus throughout the break should know there is a strong possibility of power loss and disruption in services as a result.

For employees, UNCP employees will be on Condition 1 (reduced operations) beginning Wednesday, October 10 at 3 p.m. through Thursday at 11:59 p.m. For more information on condition status, please review the ADVERSE WEATHER POLICY.

We encourage all students, faculty and staff to make the best decisions for your own personal safety. Please communicate directly with your professors, department chairs, supervisors or managers.

If necessary, you should also consider any preparations to personal property damaged or weakened by Florence to sustain the wind impacts from this system.

We will continue to update the campus community as needed.
