Phoenix Two Feathers Locklear

Phoenix Two Feathers Locklear, a Fall 2020 UNCP graduate, has been accepted into the Physician Assistant program at Methodist University.

During his time at UNCP, Locklear was heavily involved in the Health Careers Access Program (HCAP) designed to increase the number of minorities who are trained, educated and employed in the health profession. He served as HCAP co-vice president.

A first-generation college student from Pembroke, Locklear earned a degree in biology with a focus on DNA synthesis. He graduated with cum laude honors.

“I would like to thank my advisor, (HCAP senior coordinator) Natalya Freeman, for guiding and supporting me over the years. She set an example of excellence as a mentor and role model. The support and constant encouragement made my achievements possible.

“In addition, my professors made sure I received the instruction I needed to be successful in graduate school. UNCP offered many opportunities for me to build my academic character and I’m thankful for that.”

For the past two years, Locklear has been building his resume as an EMT for Robeson County. Following PA school, Locklear plans to become an oncology specialist and return to Robeson County to serve his community with a focus on hematology oncology, with emphasis on various Leukemia and blood cancers.

Locklear will begin the graduate program in August.
