UNC Pembroke professors Dr. Jamie Litty and Nathan Phillippi have been recognized for an episode of their video series "Finding Culture: A Cultural Geography of Scotland County” in the annual Communicator Awards competition of the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts.

As co-producers, the pair earned the Award of Excellence in the Informational category and the Award of Distinction in the Low-Budget category. The video uses Scotland County to illustrate key concepts for a course on cultural geography and then discusses regional differences in food.

Litty serves as professor and chair of the Department of Mass Communication. Phillippi is a lecturer in the Department of Geology and Geography. Throughout the video, Phillippi performed as the subject-matter expert and co-wrote the script with Litty, who directed location filming and post-production.

The video also features alumnae Victoria Huggins and Alisha Anyachonkeya (née Alston). The university videographer Michael Litty performed much of the video editing, graphics, and color grading when he was a PURC assistant. Professor Terence Dollard in the Department of Mass Communication was a cameraman for some of the location filming. Phillippi has used select clips from the project in classes, but the team finished a stand-alone version last summer.
