Students inducted into the Psi Lambda Chapter of TriBeta

Several of the Biology Department’s top scholars were inducted into the Psi Lambda chapter of TriBeta on April 25th. The large lecture room that hosted the event was dwarfed by a great turnout of family and friends.  As the chapter’s faculty advisor, Dr. Amber Rock welcomed the crowd, including more than two dozen students who would be inducted as Regular or Associate members of TriBeta. A catered buffet immediately followed the introductory remarks.

Student officers Blossom (Chinemerem) Edoh, Mercedes Yanick, and Alexis Jones presided over the rituals, explained the meanings of the TriBeta symbols, and offered a brief history of the national society and local chapter (dating back to 2002).  Red roses in glass “vases” (graduated cylinders) complimented the green and red colors of society, and officers introduced each new inductee by way of a biographical sketch. Graduating Regular members were bestowed with honor cords.

TriBeta is an honor society for students of the biological sciences. It recognizes excellence in academics, supports scientific research, and is dedicated to improving the understanding of biology. Students who are interested in joining TriBeta should visit the Biology webpage for Clubs & Societies, or visit the national office website at www.tribeta.org.
