Thirty UNCP students recently visited the U.S. Whitewater Center and Cedar Grove Retreat in Charlotte to take part in Native Strong 2019.

Native Strong is an academic success program tailored specifically to American Indian Students. The summer educational experience was held August 8-10. It was hosted by the Center for Student Success, Social Belonging for Student Success, and the Southeast American Indian Studies Program, in conjunction with a number of academic departments and programs.

Participants represented several tribes including Lumbee, Cherokee, Haliwa-Saponi, Coharie, Arikara, Waccamaw Siouan, and Meherrin.

Throughout the academic year, participants will build a community of support while learning skills and strategies to maximize their success at UNCP while gaining valuable insight into campus life from the perspective of our American Indian students, faculty and staff.
