Sigma Tau Delta Inductees

Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society, inducted seven new members on Wednesday, September 27, during the English Majors Meeting held in the Dial Humanities Building.

Inductees included Jaden Jones, Kaleb Lowery, Evan Mercer, Monica Shelton, Kaley Tritt, Carlee Unger, and Kayla Wingfield.

To be considered for membership, students had to maintain a B average in English coursework, rank within the top thirty-five percent of their class, and have completed at least three semesters of college coursework as well as two English courses beyond freshman composition.

Several of the new inductees joined members in reading books to children for Hoke County schools’ Literacy Night on September 14. Sigma Tau Delta also partnered with Spectrum and the Writing Center to host Poetry, Pride, and Pumpkins on October 4.

The Sigma Tau Delta sponsor, Dr. Laura Hakala, said the organization “provides opportunities for students interested in English language and literature to participate in and present professional work at conferences and conventions.” Membership in the honor society is open to students at accredited colleges and universities, and members can apply for scholarships and awards within the organization. Students interested in joining Sigma Tau Delta can contact Dr. Hakala at laura.hakala@uncp.edu.
