UNC Pembroke hosted the Hispanic Heritage Fall Festival on September 28, 2023.  Dr. Ana Cecilia Lara, Professor and Director of World Languages, opened the festival and participants were greeted by representatives from Sigma Delta Pi, Olé, and Acto Latino.

Sponsored by the Department of English, Theatre, and World Languages and the Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity, the event featured musical performances, poetry readings, dance, and theatre presentations by Acto Latino and Dr. Lara’s Spanish Theatre class.  Students from Dr. Natalie Love’s classes also staged a performance.

The University Center Annex was decorated with the flags of 21 Spanish speaking countries, and students, faculty, and staff celebrated Hispanic foods, cultures, and communities.

“The Hispanic Fall Festival is where our students, faculty, staff, and the community feel included and want to participate, learn, and embrace our cultures. As a Salvadorian, I feel proud to work in a place where we set aside one day to celebrate the joy that this event brings to the students,” said Dr. Lara.

More than 100 students and guests participated in the event.
