Students in the Master’s in Reading Education program at UNC Pembroke recently partnered with the Public Schools of Robeson County Indian Education Program to hold a Parent Reading Workshop on April 20.

The event is part of the service-learning aspect of the education program, which allows graduate candidates to shine as future reading specialists’ working with parents and children to support literacy learning.

The graduate candidates––Brittany Hager, Bella Rogers, Shiniqua Jordan, Georganna Gore and Pamela Eseigbe––gave literacy presentations at the workshop. They are all licensed teachers pursuing an advanced master’s degree in reading education. Dr. Kim Sellers, an associate professor and director of the Reading Education Program, also attended.

UNCP has partnered with PSRC to offer reading workshops for parents and children since 2007.
