April Whittemore Locklear has been named assistant director of Employer Relations in the Career Center at UNC Pembroke.

Locklear will be partnering with local, state and regional employers to develop, promote and recruit professional internships and jobs for our students and recent graduates. She will also assist graduate schools in promoting relevant graduate degree programs to campus.

Locklear joined UNC Pembroke in 2012 and has worked as an academic advisor in the Transfer Transition Office and then as the Senior Coordinator in the TRIO Student Support Services Office.

Prior to UNCP, Locklear worked for more than 10 years in the areas of human resources, grant writing and counseling in the corporate, state government and nonprofit industries. She has two Master of Arts degrees in Human Resources and Mental Health Counseling.

Locklear is a licensed clinical addictions specialist. She leads UNCP’s Brave Book Initiative: Build upon UNCP’s unique heritage by expanding our focus on American Indian Engagement and serves as the UNCP Staff Council Chair.
