Biology Department offers excellent programs:
Through its diversity of course offerings and its commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service, the Department of Biology provides academic programs that prepare students for careers as biological professionals, biological educators, or for post-graduate study. Students can choose from several baccalaureate degree programs and five graduate degree programs in science education. To learn about these degree programs, click on "Undergraduate Programs" or "Science Education" to the right. Students should consider engaging in research and out-of-classroom activities offered through the Department. The Biology Department strives to provide its faculty with opportunities, resources, and rewards to achieve excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service to the University and local communities. Members of the Biology faculty strive to enhance and enrich the intellectual, economic, social, and cultural life of the region.

Mission statement:
The mission of the Department of Biology is to advance scientific literacy, research, and service through outstanding undergraduate and graduate programs in the biological sciences and science education.  Our students and science educators are broadly prepared through exceptional instruction, experiential learning, research and internship experiences, and community partnerships to be critically thinking citizens who embrace diversity and new ideas in a rapidly changing world. Our students are prepared to create, innovate, collaborate, make new discoveries, and to apply scientific knowledge in ways that benefit environmental sustainability, human health, and the life sciences.
