About

Dennis Edgell is a professor of Geography in the Department of Geology and Geography. He has earned associates, bachelors, master's and doctoral degrees from Kent State University (Ohio). Dr. Edgell teaches courses in Principles of Geography, Weather and Climate, Meteorology and Climatology and Research in Geography, among others.

His academic specialty is climatology; however, he considers himself a “generalist” geographer. Through Dr. Edgell’s teaching career he developed an interest in cultural geography, including the geography of popular culture. He has made conference presentations on topics as wide-ranging as the climate change of degree-days, minor league baseball logos, and Japanese enka music. Dr. Edgell’s current project is titled “Meteorology and Myth”, a series of teaching modules and lectures which combine meteorological explanations with culture, religion and art history. He maintains a private (non-university) teaching blog “From Equatorial Icecaps to Polar Deserts” on WordPress.
