Larry Arnold earned a Ph.D. in Music Composition from the University of Iowa, a Master of Music in Music Composition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He retired as a Full Professor of Music from UNCP in 2023. He was awarded the University’s Adolph Dial Award for Scholarship and Creativity.

Dr. Arnold has taught music theory, counterpoint, form and analysis, composition, audio production, multimedia, guitar, bass and piano among other subjects. He also directed jazz choirs, jazz ensembles and jazz combos while at UNCP.

His professional activities include averaging over 100 performances per year as bassist, ;pianist and guitarist in jazz, musical theatre and church music; credits as recording, mixing, and mastering engineer; and regular compositions and arrangements in electronic and traditional formats. Dr. Arnold is currently service and solo pianist at Manly Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines, NC and director of the Sandhills Community College Jazz Band in Pinehurst, NC in addition to his adjunct duties at UNCP.
