About

Hailing from Nashville, TN, Joseph Begnaud earned an M.F.A in Painting from Indiana University at Bloomington and a B.F.A from the University of Dayton.  He worked and held studios in New York, St. Louis, and Portland, Maine before moving to North Carolina to teach painting at UNCP in 2012.  In 2015, Joseph was awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award at UNCP. As director of the Art Department gallery since 2017, he has curated 7-9 exhibitions annually, including Sonya Clark: Rooted, Gail Spaien: Cottage Bonsai, and Gina Adams: Its Honor is Hereby Pledged.

Joseph's paintings and drawings have been exhibited widely in museums and galleries across the United States, and has had solo exhibitions in Warsaw, Poland in 2010 and 2019. Locally, he was awarded “Best of Show” in the 2013 Art Fields Portrait Contest and presented a 2018 solo exhibition, Stranger than the Natural World, in Fayetteville, NC.
