José Rivera is coordinator of Music Education and Associate Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina-Pembroke where he conducts the University Chorale and teaches choral methods, vocal techniques, and supervises student teachers. Previously, he was on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and served as a clinician for numerous workshops, honor choirs, and clinics around the country and has conducted the Florida ACDA High School Honor Choir, Florida All-State Reading Chorus, and the North Carolina 9-10 All-State Choir. He was recently invited to conduct International Collegiate Choral Festivals at the University of Mexico (UNAM) and PanAm University in Puebla, Mexico.   Dr. Rivera currently serves as the American Choral Director’s Association Repertoire and Resources National Chair for Ethnic Music. His research interests include world music, rehearsal techniques, teacher preparation. Dr. Rivera has presented research at NAfME, ACDA national conferences, and at several international choral conferences in Argentina, Cuba, and Mexico. His articles on Latin American choral music have been published in the ACDA Choral Journal. He received his Ph.D. and M.M.E. degrees in Music Education and Conducting from Florida State University
