Inaugural class of Omicron Delta Kappa inducted at UNCP

Fifty-two UNCP students, staff and faculty were inducted into the inaugural Omicron Delta Kappa honor society during a ceremony on Friday, December 1

Fifty-two members of the UNC Pembroke community were inducted into the prestigious Omicron Delta Kappa honor society during a ceremony at the University Center Annex on Friday, December 1. 

Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) is a national leadership honor society that recognizes and celebrates excellence in leadership, scholarship and service. Membership includes students, faculty and staff. Student initiates must be in the top 35% of their class and must have demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to campus and community activities.

The UNC Pembroke Circle was presented their ODK Charter by Dr. Michael Benson, president of Coastal Carolina University and chair-elect of the ODK Board of Trustees. Along with Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Xi, Omicron Delta Kappa is a member of the prestigious Honor Society Caucus.

UNCP student inductees are:

Ashlee Allen, Ginger Allen, Aspen Andersson, Laura Arnold, Patricia Ball, Ashley Barez, Rhonda Benton, Aiesha Durham, Cheyenne Eckard, Teresa Fernandez, Gretchen Gillenwater, Molly Greene, Kennedy Hamlin, Alyssa Hester, Adam Hudy, Alicia Ibanez, Nora Johnson, Lacy Jones, Armani Jones-Elliott, Regina King, Wendy Locklear, Cyra Lowery, Amy Mace, Kimberly Malloy, Tremona Morrison-Pittman, Gabriela Otero Cruz, Brandon Patterson, Jarret Rentz, Rizihery Saenz, Mason Schwenneker, De’Maurion Shelley, Tiffany Smaw, Cray Stricker and Deanna Wiuff.

Chancellor Robin Gary Cummings leads 19 faculty and staff inductees, which include: Abdul Ghaffar, Dr. Christie Poteet, Dr. Crystal Moore, Daniel Purdue, Dr. Jamie Litty, Dr. Jane Haladay, Justin Winans, Dr. Keara Ndhlovu, Dr. Kyle Smith, LaKeya Francis, LeAnn Strickland Melvin, Luciana Hunt, Mary Beth Locklear, Paula Cummings, Sandy Jacobs, Shelby Newsome and Todd Allen.

ODK has a three-pronged mission:

  • identify, honor and develop leaders in collegiate and community life
  • Encourage collaboration among students, faculty, staff and alumni to advance leadership and
  • promote publicize and enhance our ideals and leadership values, including collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, scholarship and service
