The New Music Ensemble is directed jointly by Joseph Van Hassel and Joanna Hersey and focuses on music of our time as well as classics of the 20th century. The ensemble is comprised of students nominated by the faculty based upon their performance abilities. The instrumentation of the group varies and repertoire is chosen to reflect this unique "player pool" concept. The group is coached by various members of the faculty as well as guest artists. The group performs works by such composers as Louis Andriessen, Maki Ishii, John Cage, John Zorn, David Macbride and more!
