UNC Pembroke offers a four-semester sequence of music theory courses covering music fundamentals through advanced chromatic harmony with an introduction to 20th century compositional techniques. Students enrolled in the BM in Music Education degree and the BA in Music Industry-Classical Track degree must complete the first three courses. These students must also complete the first three courses in the Aural Skills sequence. Students enrolled in any of the other music majors must complete the first two Music Theory courses and the first two Aural Skills courses. Entering music students must take a theory placement exam.
