Tuition
UNC Pembroke bills tuition on a per-credit-hour basis with the exception of students currently in the Fixed Tuition Program. This per-credit hour tuition program is an initiative across all University of North Carolina System schools. This new model will eliminate the “stair-step” method previously used to bill campus courses for many years creating an equitable tuition rate for campus and distance education programs or courses.
Tuition will be capped at the per semester, full-time enrollment levels of twelve (12) credit hours for undergraduate students and nine (9) credit hours for graduate students.
A student’s tuition rate is based on their classification (graduate or undergraduate) and residency status (in-state or out-of-state).
Fixed Tuition Program
Continuing students in the Fixed Tuition Program will continue to be billed under the previous stair-step model. Fixed Tuition is a program passed by the North Carolina General Assembly (North Carolina General Statute 116-143.9) that requires tuition rates be fixed for a maximum of 8 consecutive semesters (not including summer sessions) for qualifying North Carolina residents attending any UNC system institution and pursuing a first bachelor's degree. Eligible students enrolled full-time or part-time can receive the Fixed Tuition benefit.
The program is designed as a cohort model. For example, eligible students who enrolled for the first time at UNCP in Fall 2020 will be charged the tuition rate for Fall 2020 for the next 8 consecutive semesters of their enrollment. Transfer students and students who are readmitted (i.e., withdraw/stop-out and return) will have prorated eligibility. —NC Fixed Tuition program.
A student’s tuition rate is based on their classification, residency status and the course type (online or face-to-face).
Fees
Fees will be assessed at a per-credit-hour rate for all students. Student fees will be charged based on the student’s declared degree program of record and will be capped at the per semester, full-time enrollment levels of twelve (12) credit hours for undergraduate students and nine (9) credit hours for graduate students.
A student’s fee rate is based on their classification (graduate or undergraduate) and program “(on-campus vs. distance education)” as listed with the Office of the Registrar.
- Students enrolled in on-campus programs will be charged using the on-campus fee structure regardless of the method their courses are delivered. For example, a student enrolled in an on-campus program who takes an online course(s) will be charged using the on-campus fee rate.
- Students declared in a distance education program will be charged using the distance education fee structure (SGA, security, educational technology fee).
- Students declared in a distance education program who choose to take on-campus courses will be charged using the on-campus fee rates for the on-campus courses and the distance education fee rates for the online courses.
- A student declared in a distance education program who takes on-campus courses to fulfill their program requirements due to UNCP not being able to fulfill their courses online can submit a waiver requesting to be charged using the distance education fee structure for the on-campus courses.
