Body to Body (2026) brings together Ena Sungwon Byun, Jalen T. Jackson , Makayla Harrison and Wen Cheng, whose works explore how the body is shaped by intimacy, memory, culture, and ecology.

Across painting, photography, and installation, the artists draw from personal experience, inherited histories, and their connections to others and the world around them. Love is present here as care, attachment, belonging, and remembrance. The works move between personal and collective memory, questions of identity, ecological connection, and histories carried in and around the body. They return to these experiences through acts of remembering, caring, and reimagining.

Together, Body to Body reflects on how we come to understand ourselves through what we inherit, what we remember, and what we choose to hold onto.

They are currently completing their 2nd year in the MFA in Studio Art program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The A.D. Gallery at UNC Pembroke began in the 1970s when faculty transformed a faculty lounge into a dedicated exhibition space. It served the art department for over 30 years. In 2005, the gallery was expanded to a new 960-square-foot facility. This new facility features a skylight and space for large-format pieces. We invite you to explore this inspiring space and discover what makes the UNCP art gallery truly unique.
