About
Dr. Scott R. Cohen is an Assistant Professor of Accounting and Finance at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Dr. Cohen joined UNCP in 2021 having previously taught for NC State University and SKEMA Business School (a French Graduate business School) among others. Prior to his time in academia, Dr. Cohen acquired over 30 years’ experience in accounting, finance and as an entrepreneur. He has successfully created and operated a variety of business. These operations spanned the retail, finance, and accounting spectrum.
He is Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and is licensed in North Carolina, Colorado and Maryland (active) and held licenses in Indiana and Virginia. He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).
Dr. Cohen is married to Sandra Cohen and has two adult children. His son Robert is a business banker and analyst with BB&T and an Appalachian State graduate, and his daughter Lauren is a certified counselor and a graduate from Wake Forest University’s master’s program. Both live in Cary, North Carolina. He currently lives in Wagram, North Carolina.
Dr. Cohen’s research interests are in improving accounting pedagogy and student attitudes and outcomes.
