Chester Batterton
English Major
About
Chester Batterton is from Castalia, North Carolina. When he first visited UNCP’s campus, he discovered that he liked the diverse atmosphere of the school and the ways that it was welcoming to all its students. This visit helped Chester decide that UNCP was the school for him.
Chester graduated in May 2020 with a BA in English with a concentration in Literary Studies and a minor in TESOL (teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). While attending UNCP Chester received the Grace Loving Gibson scholarship, which is awarded annually to an English or Theatre major who demonstrates “creativity and ability in communication.”
Chester considers the honors contract courses to be the most rewarding part of the Honors College experience. He liked the challenge he could give himself by taking such a course. He was very impressed by the Honors College faculty, whom he described as “kind, open, and helpful”.
For his senior project Chester wrote a poetry chapbook entitled Internal Embers that deals with his own actions and their consequences.
Chester advises students to write down every due date in a planner so that they will have an easier time keeping up with assignments also encourages students to not be shy about asking professors for help, asking questions, or anything else that the student may need.
