On January 2, Dr. Mary-Jeanne (MJ) Raleigh started work at UNC Pembroke as director of the Counseling and Testing Center.

Dr. Raleigh, who comes to UNCP from St. Mary’s College of Maryland where she was director of counseling services, will manage a staff of 10 professionals and four graduate interns who provide counseling and preventive services to students. She brings 27 years of experience in counseling and several other areas of student affairs.

A 23-year old who has carried a weapon into Iraq or Afghanistan is a different kind of college student, said Michael Clawson, a retired U.S. Army colonel and the new coordinator of Military and Veterans Services at UNC Pembroke.

Kelsey Cummings, a graduate student in music education, was named Miss UNCP 2013 on Jan. 31 during the annual pageant at the Givens Performing Arts Center.

On January 13, UNC Pembroke dedicated its newest campus landmark in the Health Sciences Building. More than 50 people contributed to the privately-funded project.
