The Department of English, Theatre, and World Languages offers the following scholarships:

Beatrice Locklear Brayboy Endowed Scholarship (Spanish majors)
The donors wish to recognize the service of Mrs. Beatrice Locklear Brayboy to the various public school systems from which she retired. She enjoyed over 34 years as a Spanish teacher and has a deep passion for the promotion of the Spanish language and the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. She is also an unwavering advocate for the teaching of Spanish within our educational structures.

The recipients of this scholarship must be Spanish majors maintaining a minimum 2.7 QPA. Preference will be afforded to qualified Spanish majors who aspire to become Spanish teachers. Successful candidates should be well-rounded students as evidenced by their involvement in University and community service and activities. Candidates must engage in volunteer opportunities that promote the Spanish culture on or off campus. Financial need will be considered. Grace Loving Gibson Scholarship (English and Theatre majors)
This scholarship was established by students and friends of Grace E.L. Gibson, who taught composition, literature, journalism, and creative writing in the Communicative Arts Department of UNC Pembroke from 1966-1986. It is awarded annually to a talented student writer majoring in English or Theatre who has demonstrated creativity and ability in communication.

The recipient of the Grace Loving Gibson Endowed Scholarship will be a talented student majoring in English or Theatre. Applicants must demonstrate creativity and ability in communication.Important information:
This is a competitive scholarship. One scholarship is awarded each academic year. The selection committee may request official documentation from finalists to verify information provided. Applicants will also be asked to submit a formal academic writing sample (approximately 2000 words) and a 300-400 word personal statement that addresses the following:- Why are you applying for this scholarship?
- Why are you majoring in English?
- How will this scholarship further your career goals?

Deon Greene Memorial Annual Scholarship Award for Study Abroad (Spanish majors)
The donor wishes to honor the memory of Deon Greene, a student who loved the Spanish language and appreciated the study abroad opportunity he had at UNCP.

Kay McClanahan Endowed Scholarship in Theatre
Several members of the UNCP community who knew and loved Dr. Virginia K. (Kay) McClanahan established this scholarship to honor her memory. Drama was Kay’s major at St. Andrews Presbyterian College during her undergraduate days, and it continued to be a great source of pleasure for her all the rest of her life. This scholarship is intended to recognize and recruit students with outstanding potential in the dramatic arts.

This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving undergraduate student who is enrolled full time in the Theatre Program at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The student must maintain a minimum of 2.5 GPA. Incoming freshmen as well as current students will be eligible.
