Dr. Ashley McMillan, director of the American Indian Heritage Center at UNC Pembroke, has been selected for the Hunt Institute’s ElevateNC Higher Education program.

The program is designed to enhance leadership capacity and provide a forum for developing strategies that increase postsecondary attainment. Members were selected from various sectors, including state policymakers, K-12 superintendents and teachers, higher education administrators and faculty, the business community and local government representatives.

“I'm extremely excited about participating in the ElevateNC program,” said McMillan, who also serves as American Indian liaison to the Chancellor. “I look forward to learning from the other participants and being equipped with leadership skills and tools that will allow me to make a more meaningful contribution to my role and the greater UNCP community.”

Over the next year, beginning on August 29-30, participants will meet for four sessions which will cover different topics and policy issues, as well as offer ways for leaders to move from learning to implementing in their home communities.

Chancellor Robin Gary Cummings was a member of the 2021-22 cohort.
