The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) has selected Jose D’Arruda (Chemistry & Physics) as recipient of a 2018 Homer L. Dodge Citation for Distinguished Service to AAPT. The award is presented to members in recognition of exceptional contributions to the association at the national, sectional, or local level. The honor will be presented to Professor D’Arruda during the 2018 summer meeting in Washington, D.C.
A professor of Physics at UNC Pembroke, D’Arruda, has been an AAPT member since 1975 and an active member in the North Carolina Section. He has served on the Committee on Minorities in Physics (2000-2002), as Section Representative (2003-2006), and was elected to the Presidential Chain in 2006, serving for three years. He also received the 2014 John L. Hubisz Award for Outstanding Service to the North Carolina American Association of Physics Teachers.
