The national tour of the acclaimed Broadway musical Anastasia comes to Givens Performing Arts Center on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m.

From the Tony Award-winning creators of the Broadway classic Ragtime and inspired by the beloved films, Anastasia is the new Broadway musical that’s “one of the most gorgeous shows in years!” (New York Observer).

“We are very excited to bring Broadway back to Pembroke for our 2022-2023 season,” said James Bass, executive director of GPAC. “We’re proud to bring a quality performance like this to our venue and to make great family fun available to our area.”

Anastasia transports audiences from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love and family.

With its opulent settings and dazzling costumes, the musical features a soaring score, including the song favorites from the hit animated film, “Journey to the Past” and “Once Upon a December.”

Anastasia began performances on Broadway in March 2017 at the Broadhurst Theatre with critics exclaiming, “Smartly adapted by Terrence McNally, Anastasia is a sweeping adventure, romance and historical epic whose fine craftsmanship will satisfy musical-theater fans (Time Out).”

The show played to sold-out audiences on Broadway for more than three years before expanding its global “Fanastasia” community with productions on tour across North America and in Japan, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.

Tickets range from $39 to $49. Group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. For tickets and more information, visit uncp.edu/gpac or call 910.521.6361.

Other performances coming to GPAC for 2022-2023 include “The Nutcracker Ballet” on Nov. 20, the annual Holiday Extravaganza concert on Dec. 2, the Lviv National Philharmonic of Ukraine on Jan. 25, Dublin Irish Dance on March 13.
