Summer Camps


1.    Junior Braves  (July 7-10) or (July 14-17)  Rising 4th through 8th graders

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke offers rising 4th - rising 8th graders the opportunity to join the Junior Braves program for a week of fun, creativity and problem solving. The Junior Braves program is designed to motivate and inspire young learners to explore and excel at challenging activities. Junior Braves will be introduced to UNC Pembroke and a variety of academic and technological skills. Enrichment classes provide opportunities for students to increase their knowledge and improve academic skills. The academically challenging classes are designed to foster development of independent learning strategies as well as offer new experiences, discoveries, challenges and excitement.

2.    UNCP Sports Camp (July 21 - 25)  (July 28 - Aug 1) or  (Aug 4 - 8)  Ages 7 -12

UNCP All-Sports Camp provides a combination of both planned and optional activities to give kids exposure to a variety of sports and recreational activities. The summer camp is designed for youngsters ages 7 - 12 and it will provide group instruction in a variety of sports including basketball, soccer, track, softball, volleyball, kickball, tennis, ultimate Frisbee, and flag football. The camp is staffed by UNCP faculty, athletes, and experienced counselors, and the focus is on fun. This multi-sport camp will provide a safe and fun environment for kids to play sports they already enjoy as well as try new activities.

3.    Leadership Institute  (June 16 - 20) Ages 12-16

"Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others." —Jack Welch.

The UNCP summer Leadership Institute will serve as a spring board for teens to learn more about themselves and their vision, while honing critical leadership skills for success in their future. The program will focus on activities that will range from team-based challenges that focus on cohesion, morale, trust and problem-solving to Civic & Servant Leadership and the unique challenges that face them. The program will complete the week with all participants receiving a certificate from the UNCP Regional Center for Professional Leadership.

    Day 1: What is leadership and what are the Fundamentals Rules

    Day 2: Presentation and Public Speaking

    Day 3: Team Building and Culture

    Day 4: Coaching and Mediating Conflict

    Day 5: Civic & Servant Leadership

4.    College Bound: SAT Summer Institute   (July 28 - Aug 1) and (Aug 4 - Aug 8)    9th -12th grades 

College Bound is pre-college preparation for high school students looking to prepare for the SAT/ACT by attending an intensive 14-day program at UNCP. Students will spend the morning on test preparation and the afternoon shifts to experiencing dozens of other enrichment courses. Students can choose from business, education, political science, computers and healthcare. In addition, students can learn how to apply for financial aid and scholarships, and gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

5.    MeDi-Camp Healthcare   (Aug 4 - 8)  9th -12th  grades   (limit 30 students)

Why is healthcare a great career? Currently, there are over 400 career opportunities within the healthcare sector and with the changing environment, many of the jobs pay great! Meet various professionals in the medical field who will answer questions and share inside knowledge about their careers. Tour the UNCP Nursing and Social Work School to for a look at some of the skills needed to succeed in today's healthcare field. Discover what training in the field looks like today and where the sector is going. Learn medical terminology; understand the health trends in your community and study nutrition & exercise. As part of our field trips, we will visit Southeastern Medical Center and Scotland Memorial Hospital to get a true working knowledge of medicine today. In addition, students will get to speak advisors to get a walk thru the application process to getting into UNCP's Nursing and Social work program.
