The Teaching and Learning Center of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke was established in 1996. Its mission is to promote the teaching excellence for which the University is known by generating the ideas, activities, and enthusiasm that foster quality teaching and learning.
Teaching and Learning Center goals:
The TLC seeks to foster an environment where teaching is rewarded and recognized as an opportunity and a privilege. Assisted by the Task Force on Teaching Excellence, its advisory body, the Teaching and Learning Center fulfills its mission by providing faculty with opportunities to attend weekly presentations and workshops on teaching, the annual Summer Institute on Online and Hybrid Course Development, and the annual Faculty Development Day. Faculty can also participate in teaching circles; have access to learning resources; and apply for grants for research and professional development, teaching enhancement, and travel to professional conferences.
The Teaching and Learning Center provides instructional design services to assist faculty with the incorporation of technology into teaching, assists faculty with the preparation of promotion and tenure materials, and facilitates the preparation of departmental plans for the assessment of student learning outcomes. The TLC also provides mentors for new faculty and participates in the annual New Faculty Orientation Program.
As a unit within the Division of Academic Affairs, the Teaching and Learning Center establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with other offices and departments within the University, including the Division of Instructional Technology, Office of Distance Education, Digital Academy, and Livermore Library. The Teaching and Learning Center is located in the DF Lowry Building, Room 301, and is open daily Monday through Friday.
