Welcome to the UNC Pembroke Department of Music

The Department of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

In the spring 2008 semester, enrollment in the music department is near 80, including both graduate and undergraduate students. On the faculty there are thirteen full-time professors and eleven adjunct faculty. We are proud of our small classes and our familial atmosphere. The faculty and staff sincerely care about the students and their education.

The Department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, a Bachelor of Arts in Music with Elective Studies in Business, a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre, an academic concentration, and minors in music, sacred music and jazz studies. The Department also offers a Master of Arts in Music Education.

The mission of the department of music is to offer all students who have demonstrated interest and ability in music the opportunity to continue further study either for a profession or an avocation, and to educate students in such a way that they understand and appreciate music not only as an art form with a rich historical and cultural heritage, but as an ongoing, contemporary endeavor that incorporates tradition and technological advancements through individual and group participation.

The Department of Music is located in the newly renovated Moore Hall. The performing spaces in the building include the instrumental rehearsal room, the choral rehearsal hall, and the auditorium. Moore Hall Auditorium seats approximately 200 people and is used for most of the department's events. The Givens Performing Arts Center, which seats over 1,600, is also available for use by the music department.
