Department of Mass Communications

The Department of Mass Communications combines Broadcasting, Journalism, and Public Relations tracks in one liberal arts program.

We are an academic department offering a balance of theory and practice in the study of mass communication while preparing professionals in broadcasting, journalism, and public relations and improving the lives of people through high-quality, integrated programs in teaching, research, and outreach.

We emphasize a strong liberal arts education and rigorous professional preparation for students planning careers in mass media and media-related fields. The department also offers courses analyzing the role of mass media in society. Students and faculty are stimulated to professional communication and creative expression in a variety of media.

Students enrolled in our program complete a core of Mass Communication courses as well as academic coursework specific to their Broadcasting, Journalism, or Public Relations tracks.

Our students are enthusiastic about the straight stuff they learn from the real world experiences they find in The Pine Needle campus newspaper, WNCP-TV television station, and our chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).

If you are looking for top-notch preparation for an exciting professional career in media, why not stop by Old Main and see us?
