The Center for Academic Excellence embodies UNCP’s commitment to your academic success. That means that, together, our programs, offices, and resources form a comprehensive academic support network that can assist you as you find your ideal path and pursue your degree. Whether guiding you through your academic transition, helping you clarify career goals, and explore majors, or providing tutoring that helps you meet the challenges of college study, the CAE is an important part of your experience at UNCP.
The First Year Program welcomes all new UNCP freshmen to the University and helps them make the transition to college. By providing academic advisement for students in their first year, enhancing their membership in the academic community through Freshman Seminar 1000, the CAE helps students create a solid foundation for their future at UNCP.
The Second Year Program assists sophomores in making a successful transition from first year to second year; enhance sophomores’ integration into the community; provide opportunities for sophomores to develop relationships with faculty, staff, and advisors; and make informed and thoughtful decisions about their futures.
The Tutoring Program (UPASS) helps students achieve their academic goals by offering individualized tutoring in General Education courses. The Second Year Program offers tutoring for higher level courses.
Supplemental Instruction is offered to all students who want to improve their understanding of course material and their grades in SI-supported courses. The sessions provide students with a chance to get together and organize material, compare notes, discuss important concepts, and develop strategies in preparation for exams.
