U.S. State Department Scholarship: Global UGRAD

The State Department is sponsoring a scholarship for undergraduate study in the US. It is a full scholarship for one semester (and in some cases one year, if English language study is also included) of non-degree study at a U.S. university, targeted to “emerging leaders committed to their home communities” interested in exploring U.S. society, culture and academic learning while participating in community service. Students from disadvantaged and non-traditional backgrounds who might otherwise not have an opportunity to study abroad are often the most compelling applicants, and stand to benefit the most from it.

Students apply to the program themselves, through an online process managed by World Learning, which runs the program under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of State. The application window this year will be open from November 1 to December 31.
