2020 Spring Commencement
August 8, 2020, at 9 a.m.

When and where will the ceremony begin?
The Spring Commencement will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at the Bell Tower Quad on the UNCP campus. 


When, where, and how do I line up?
You will line up alphabetically by degree and by school/college in the Main gym in the Jones Health and Physical Education Center at 7:30 a.m. Please be sure to know which School/College (College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, School of Business, or College of Health Science) your degree and major falls under. If you are not sure, please ask. This will ease any confusion during line-up.

UNCP staff will be there to assist you.  You will also receive correspondence from various offices that will give you information. Be sure to read all correspondence from all campus offices carefully so you will know what you need to do.


Where do I get my graduation tickets?

You may pick up your tickets from the Registrar’s Office in Lumbee Hall starting March 18, 2020 if you did not attend Grad Finale. The last day to pick up tickets is August 4. Please do not expect your tickets to be available after this date.


How many tickets may I get?

You will receive eight (8) tickets.  We recommend that you plan your list of guests using this number.  The amount is determined by the number of graduates and the seating capacity of the facility used. If there are extra tickets, an email will be sent out on August 7, 2020. Please note there is no guarantee additional tickets will be available, and they will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.


Can I have my tickets mailed to me?

Yes.  You must make your request via an email from your Bravemail address to Please allow time for mailing and returning. Please include the address to which you wish them to be mailed. No tickets will be mailed after April 24, 2020. They must be picked up in person after this date.


Can someone pick up my tickets for me?

Yes, with your written and signed permission. This can be emailed to from your Bravemail account. Please indicate the person’s full legal name picking up the tickets. They will be required to present a picture I.D.



I, Full Legal Name, Banner ID, give permission for (Full Legal Name of designee) to pick up my tickets for me.




Where do I get my cap and gown?
Caps and Gowns are available for pick up in the UNCP Bookstore if you did not attend Grad Finale. They will not be available after graduation. You may also have your cap and gown mailed to you after Grad Finale if you do not wish to attend. Here is the link for the order:

What time do guests need to be here?
The Quad will open for guests at 8 a.m. on graduation day. All guests should be seated no later than 8:45 a.m.

Will handicapped seating be available for guests?

Yes.  Please inform Dr. Nicolette Campos, Director of Accessibility Resource Center, by calling 910.521.6695 that handicapped seating will be needed.  You may also email Also, inform the Marshals when you arrive for graduation. Tickets will be stamped for those who need Accessibility seating.


Do children require tickets?

Yes, unless they are small enough to be held for the entire ceremony.  If they require a seat, they must have a ticket.


What if my family member doesn’t have a ticket? The UC lounge will be available for those family members or friends who do not have a ticket but wish to watch the commencement streamed live. The ceremony will also be posted on the UNCP YouTube page. Extra chairs are not allowed, due to pathways that must be set up.


What should I wear?  Graduates are expected to wear attire appropriate for a formal commencement exercise.  Gowns must be zipped up during the ceremony.


Do we walk across the stage individually?

Yes.  When your name is called, you will walk across the stage and receive your diploma cover. You will shake hands with the Chancellor, receive your cover with alumni certificate, and take a picture. Then you will move on to shake hands with the Provost and Deans.


When do I get my actual diploma?

Your actual diploma will be mailed to you in June after final grades have been processed and you have been cleared for graduation. Email notification will be sent to those who have been awarded their degree.


How long does the ceremony last?   Approximately 2-3 hours.
