Professor and Dean of Esther G. Maynor Honors College
Teagan Decker, Ph.D., is an associate professor of English and dean of the Esther G. Maynor Honors College at the University of North Carolina, Pembroke. After graduating with a BA in literature and an MA in teaching writing from Humboldt State University (California), she earned a Ph.D. in language and rhetoric from the University of Washington (Seattle), where she also directed the English department writing center. At UNC Pembroke, she directed the writing center from 2007-2015, and has served as assistant dean to the honors college since 2015. She currently teaches courses in composition and the humanities, supervises the senior project course sequence for the honors college, and teaches courses in rhetoric at the graduate level. Dr. Decker has presented several conference papers on service-learning, and works to promote community-oriented education in her own classes and across campus. Her most recent publication is the co-edited collection Peer Pressure, Peer Power: Collaborative Peer Review and Response in the Writing Classroom. She is currently engaged in editing another collection, Writing Centers and Learning Commons: The Politics and Pedagogy of Sharing Common Ground. She is the editor of ReVisions: Best Student Essays at UNCP.
