Michael Sparks earned his master of music degree from Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and bachelor of music from Florida State University in violin performance.
An active performer, he has appeared with ensembles in the US and the UK including an East Coast tour of the Nutcracker with the Moscow Ballet, Carnegie Hall performances with the Carolina Philharmonic, recording the Kleiberg Requiem at the National Cathedral, and recently a tour of NC including performances in Washington D.C. with the newly formed Carolina International Orchestra along with players from the Chinese National Orchestra. Michael also regularly performs with the Long Bay Symphony in Myrtle Beach, SC the Carolina Philharmonic in Pinehurst, NC and Fayetteville Symphony in Fayetteville, NC, along with others.
A dedicated teacher, Michael is the professor of violin and viola at both UNC at Pembroke and Methodist University, previously founded the Middle School Strings Program at the O'Neal School, and has participated in the Carolina Philharmonic's public school outreach program. He has trained in the Suzuki Method and currently has private teaching studios in Southern Pines and Chapel Hill, NC. When not involved with music, Michael also coaches Japanese and develops/revises courses for the North Carolina Virtual Public Schools.
