About

Jeff Frederick is Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he also serves as Professor of History. As a scholar, Frederick is an historian of the American South who specializes in the relationship between politics and society. He has published on a variety of southern history topics including interest groups, southern culture and identity, southern governors during the civil rights era, the role of evangelicals in politics, Deep South party politics, sport and race, and NASCAR.  He has published a lengthy biography (University of Alabama Press) of Alabama Governor George Wallace, Stand Up for Alabama: Governor George Wallace, as well as a variety of journal articles, book chapters, essays, reviews, manuals, and reference works.  The monthly podcast he hosts (30 Brave Minutes) has been heard in approximately ninety countries, he speaks frequently across the South on a variety of topics related to southern history, and his work has appeared in a variety of traditional, electronic, and media platforms.  He received his Ph.D. from Auburn University and is a proud husband to Melinda and father to three boys.
