Dr. West received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University in 1992 and continued his education with an Executive Master of Business Administration from ASU’s W.P. Carey School of Business in 2009.  In 2014, Dr. West earned his Ph.D. in Public Policy and Public Administration from ASU’s School of Public Affairs.  

At the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Dr. West served two years as Chair of the Faculty Senate and one year as Secretary of the Faculty Senate and has chaired various UNCP Faculty Senate standing committees.

Dr. West spends his spare time running a 23-acre farm in Laurinburg, North Carolina, flying fixed-wing aircraft, teaching SCUBA, Jeeping offroad, riding motorcycles, and restoring antique automobiles. He enjoys fishing and bow and long-rifle hunting.  Dr. West is currently restoring a 1936 Chrysler Airstream Convertible and a 1976 Cadillac Coupe DeVille.
