About

Dr. Litty has ten years' experience in public radio and television in New York, New Jersey and Ohio. She taught ten years in higher education and the non-profit sector before coming to UNCP in July of 2001. Here she teaches courses in audiovisual production, media writing, and media theory, law, and ethics. Dr. Litty was chair of the department from 2003 to 2012 and again from 2016 to 2024.

Dr. Litty is an award-winning videomaker who has produced in a variety of corporate and news genres. Her current research interests are in intellectual property law, realism in video games, and gender in sports broadcasting. Previous research included health communication and the phenomenology of media production. She regularly speaks on topics in media pedagogy.

A recipient of a 2011 UNCP Outstanding Teaching Award, Dr. Litty was adviser to the Mass Communication Department's weekly student-produced TV newscast, Carolina News Today, from 2001 to 2004 and from 2006 – 2023, as well as adviser to "The Hawk" internet radio station from 2008 - 2013. She is currently adviser to the Indianhead yearbook. Dr. Litty is active in university governance, notably in the Faculty Senate.

Dr. Litty received the 2014 Adolph L. Dial Faculty Award for Community Service.  Previous work in the community includes chairmanship of the Cable Access Channel Advisory Committee for Laurinburg/Scotland County and videography services and grant preparation for the Storytelling and Arts Center of the Southeast.  She has been active nationally in the Broadcast Education Association, including stints as chair of their annual faculty video competition, and active regionally in the Carolinas Communication Association, from which she received the Betty Jo Welch Award for Service in 2019.
