About

Dr. Corey Pomykacz serves as an Assistant Professor within the Sociology and Criminal Justice Department at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Holding a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Central Florida, Dr. Pomykacz pursued her graduate studies at Central Florida, achieving an M.A. in Applied Sociology and a Ph.D. in Sociology, with a specialization in crime and deviance. 

Currently, Dr. Pomykacz assumes the role of Substance Abuse Minor Coordinator within the department. Her instructional portfolio at UNCP encompasses a diverse range of courses including Social Statistics, Sociology of Drug Use, Substance Abuse Prevention, Criminology, Introduction to Criminal Justice, Social Deviance, Social Problems in Modern Society, and Introduction to Sociology. 

Her research endeavors center on the exploration of substance use patterns among adolescents and young adults. Dr. Pomykacz has contributed as a co-author to several peer-reviewed articles, specifically delving into the non-medical use of prescription drugs. Her research sheds light on the correlates of use, motivations underlying usage, and sources of drug acquisition. Moreover, she investigates the interplay between substance use, educational achievement, criminal conduct, and adverse health outcomes.
