About

Brittney Fenick knew she liked the idea of a smaller campus because the smaller class sizes would be less crowded and more personal. This is why she chose the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

In May of 2020, Brittney graduated with degrees in psychology and philosophy. She participated in many organizations outside of the classroom as well during her time at UNCP. During her junior year, Brittney was involved in the Sacred Alliance Club on campus, serving as the treasurer. Britney also worked alongside Dr. Erik Tracy, an associate professor in the psychology department, serving as his research assistant.

The honors classes were the most rewarding part of the honors community for Brittney. She enjoyed the challenging work and smaller class sizes. She believed those aspects help to make the topics more fun to learn.

For her senior project, Brittney chose to conduct research on the cultural causes and effects of the satanic and cult panics in the US. After taking REL 4270: Sects, Cults, and New Religions, she chose to dive deeper, completing her senior project on the topic.

Brittney plans to begin working towards her MS in social work in the fall of 2020 at UNC Pembroke. She advises future honors students to seek information about the honors classes from other students and to not procrastinate. Brittney encourages all students to start their work as early as possible, and to keep a consistent pace.
