Adjunct, Applied Improvisation and General Music Appreciation
Tylar Bullion joined the faculty at UNCP in 2019, where he teaches applied improvisation and general music appreciation. He received his undergraduate degree in Jazz & Studio Music from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville (studying under Don Hough, Daniel Cloutier, Alex van Duuren, and Vance Thompson), and his masters degree in Trombone Performance from Western Michigan University (studying under Steve Wolfinbarger) where he served as the graduate teaching assistant. Mr. Bullion was the winner of the 2015 USAF Band of the Golden West Principal and Lead trombone positions, a member of the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra, and was invited to perform at the 2018 American Trombone Workshop as a member of the Western Michigan Trombone Choir, performing several solos. Mr. Bullion has enjoyed performances alongside Greg Tardy, Ray Reach, The Dirty Guvnahs, and has completed other recording projects with various groups including Three Star Revival, Vance Thompson's Five Plus Six, and the Downbeat award winning Western Michigan jazz band.
