Health Benefit Plans

The State Health Plan of North Carolina offers two preferred provider organization (PPO) plans, the 70/30 plan and the 80/20 plan, to eligible state employees.  The PPO plans are administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC). 

  • Visit www.shpnc.org to learn detailed information on specific plans.
  • Permanent employees working 30 or more hours per week are eligible to participate in the State Health Plan. Permanent part-time employees who work 20 to 29 hours per week are also eligible, but without employer contributions. 
  • Eligible employees must enroll within 30 days of the date of hire. Coverage begins the first day of the month following the date of hire.
  • Employees use the eBenefits link in BraveWeb to enroll or make changes to their State Health Plan benefits. 
  • BCBS Blue Connect Member Login: Access claims information; locate medical providers; access personalized wellness programs; and more.

NCFlex Benefit Program

The NCFlex Program offers a variety of pre-tax benefit plans to eligible state employees.

UNC System Group Term Life Insurance and Voluntary Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Plan

The UNC System has partnered with Securian Financial to provide a consolidated life insurance plan that offers coverage for employees, spouses or domestic partners, and dependent children.  Click here to learn more about the coverage options available to you, special plan features and services and costs for coverage.
