Jayla Locklear, a sophomore biology major at UNC Pembroke, was recently crowned Miss Indian North Carolina.
The virtual pageant, hosted by United Tribes, was held on Feb. 12. Locklear resides in Robeson County and is a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina.
The 2022 BraveNation Powwow and Gathering (BNPG) will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022, on the football field at the Grace P. Johnson Stadium at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Grand entry is at noon. Doors open at 10 a.m.
UNC Pembroke’s on-campus food pantry, the CARE Resource Center, won second place in the NC Collegiate Hunger Challenge, earning a check for $7,000 to support food insecurity initiatives.
