This is the life The University of North Carolina at Pembroke’s executive director of the Thomas Family Center for Entrepreneurship and Incubator, Thomas Hall, has cultivated.

The Bostonian brought this three-word mantra to UNCP when he was hired last fall, expanding the university’s ability to change lives through education.

“I like the rewarding challenge of developing the Thomas Family Center and help create jobs through entrepreneurship,” said Hall

UNC Pembroke’s Bahr honored with Gardner award for work in neurological research

Ben Bahr comes from a family with lofty goals. After all, his father was part of the space program that helped mankind reach the moon. So it should come as little surprise that Bahr wants to achieve something equally ambitious: find a way to eliminate neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease.

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is offering several opportunities for area youth to keep the creative juices flowing this summer.

Summer camps ranging from STEM, sports to entrepreneurship will be offered beginning mid-June. The Office for Regional Initiatives will offer Junior Braves, UNCP Sports Camp, College Bound: SAT Summer Institute, and Entrepreneurship Camp “BIG IDEAS.”

Registration has closed for Engineering Camp Pembroke.

UNCP alumnus, Mel Gardner made an important observation during his first weeks in the U.S. Marine Corps, fresh out of high school. “I noticed the officers seemed to live a whole lot better than I did. They lived better and dressed better.” When he asked a lieutenant the requirements for becoming an officer, the answer would change the course of Gardner’s life. “He said, ‘the only difference between you and me is a college degree.’ Right then, I decided I was going to get one.”

A grand opening for the Museum Store in the Museum of the Southeast American Indian at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke will be held on May 18.

The event will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 pm. The museum is located inside Old Main. The public is invited to attend.

An artist reception, featuring Lumbee artist Bea Locklear Brayboy, will be held in conjunction with opening.
