Due to impacts from winter weather, the university will extend condition 2 status (suspended operations) until 11 a.m. Thursday, January 18. Classes will resume at 12:30 p.m.

From 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, the university will operate on condition 1 status, reduced operations. UNC Pembroke will officially remain open; however, many non-mandatory operations may be substantially reduced.

At 5 p.m. January 18, the university will resume standard operations.

Conditions may vary throughout our region. All faculty, students living off campus, and staff are strongly encouraged to evaluate road conditions along their commute and to use discretion in choosing whether or not to travel to campus. Personal safety is the first priority.

If you determine conditions are not safe for you to travel to campus, please notify the appropriate parties—employees should contact their supervisor or manager and students should contact professors.

Adverse Weather and University Operating Status

CONDITION 1: Non-mandatory employees have the option to report late, leave early, or not work at all based on their own personal circumstances. However, employees are responsible for informing their supervisors in a timely manner of all such decisions. Employees must code available leave for any work time missed during a Condition 1 status, unless their supervisor authorizes off-site work (e.g., teleworking) or the Governor issues an Executive Order permitting leave with pay for any missed time. 

CONDITION 2 means the university will remain open on a very limited basis, but has formally suspended all but mandatory operations due to minimal staffing levels. Employees designated or temporarily assigned as mandatory must report to work as directed; all other employees may not report to work or must leave the workplace when this status takes effect. Employees must code available leave for any work time missed during a Condition 2 unless the supervisor authorized off-site work arrangements or the Governor issues an Executive Order permitting leave with pay for any missed work time.

For safety reasons, non-essential employees should remain home. Employees who are deemed essential (scheduled to work during the adverse weather event) will be communicated to by their managers or supervisors.

At 7 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, the university will operate on condition 1—reduced operations—from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. Wednesday, January 17. UNC Pembroke will officially remain open; however, many non-mandatory operations may be substantially reduced.

The university will move to a condition 2 status—suspended operations—from 12 p.m. Wednesday, January 17 until 8 a.m. Thursday, January 18. More information about university operating conditions under the university’s adverse weather policy can be found below.

Together with local authorities, the university is monitoring the possibility of winter weather in our area tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17.

UNC Pembroke is currently operating on a normal schedule and will provide updates as forecasts develop. The next update will occur prior to 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.
