The UNC Pembroke Music Department has released virtual performances as part of the 12th annual Holiday Extravaganza for viewers to enjoy this holiday season.

Normally, a popular in-person concert at the Givens Performing Arts Center to raise funds for music student scholarships, the Holiday Extravaganza is an event of traditional and contemporary Christmas music for the whole family.

The performances can be viewed here.

This year’s event is a collection of videos featuring student and faculty soloists and groups performing both traditional carols. Performances include “Deck the Halls” and “What Child Is This?,” as well as contemporary selections including “The Man With the Bag” and “All Bells” (a jazz arrangement of “Jingle Bells” that incorporates Miles Davis’s classic “All Blues”). The video concludes with a performance of Handel’s “Hallelujah” chorus recorded live at last year’s show.

“The Holiday Extravaganza has become one of the most popular performances of the year, bringing the UNC community together for a festive and uplifting concert and marking the end of the term,” said Dr. Aaron Vandermeer, music department chair.

“This year has no doubt been more challenging than most and we are so grateful for your support. We miss playing in large ensembles, sitting less than 10 feet apart and performing live for enthusiastic audiences. Still, we are grateful to be making music together again.”
